Berry Beautiful: Crocheting the Berries Squares | Garden Medley Blanket CAL
We’re getting close to the finish line now! This week’s square is the Berries motif, a soft, organic design that balances out the bolder shapes we’ve already made. The mix of rust and deep green gives it such a cozy, autumnal feel, and it adds a really lovely touch of texture to the blanket overall.

About This Square
You’ll be making two of these squares for your blanket. It’s a satisfying one to work on — a little bit of colorwork, but nothing too complicated. The stems and leaves work up quickly, and by now you’ll probably find your tension and rhythm feel second nature.

You’ll need the following materials to complete your Berries square:
Hook: 5 mm (or size needed to meet gauge)
Yarn: Amigo XL from Hobbii (Worsted weight, 100% Acrylic)
A – Ecru: 249 yards / 229 m
D – Rust: 26 yards / 24 m
E – Hunter Green: 78 yards / 72 m
Extras: scissors, yarn needle, stitch markers, yarn bobbins, and a bobbin holder

Tip of the Week
By this point in the CAL, it’s really tempting to speed through the last few squares just to see the full blanket come together, I’ve been there! But this week’s reminder is all about consistency over speed.
Try to keep your tension relaxed and your stitches even, even if that means taking it slower. You’ve probably improved a lot since week one, so it’s normal if your later squares look slightly neater or flatter.
If you notice small differences in square size, don’t stress about it. Once everything’s blocked and joined, they’ll look uniform. The main goal now is to enjoy the process and keep that steady rhythm going until the end.
Introduction
This pattern can be worked either by following the written instructions or the color chart.
Reading The Chart
The first row of the pattern is worked in FSC. For every following row, work a SC into every stitch. At the end of every row, ch 1 (not counted as a stitch) and turn. The ch 1 at the end of each row is not shown on the chart. The chart is worked flat. Read odd-numbered rows from right to left, and even-numbered rows from left to right. Each square equals one SC (or FSC for the first row).
Right and Wrong Sides
This pattern is worked back and forth in rows of single crochet. Both sides look nearly identical, but the RS and WS labels are used to keep the chart orientation consistent. The chart is read from the bottom right corner upward.
- Right-handed crocheters: Odd-numbered rows are the Right Side (RS)
- Left-handed crocheters: Even-numbered rows are the Right Side (RS)
This keeps everyone’s chart orientation consistent so the finished design faces the correct direction, no matter which hand you crochet with.
Color Changes
- To change colors, work last st with the current color until 2 loops remain on the hook, yarn over with the new color, and pull through.
- Use bobbins to add new yarn, do not carry the yarn that is not in use under stitches.
- When using the same color twice in a row, add multiple bobbins of color as necessary.
