Here’s a really quick pattern for these fun little crochet turtle coasters! I made these whilst trying to use up some Dishie I had leftover after designing some dishcloths (stay tuned for those patterns!). These coasters are the perfect way to use up all those small balls of yarn you have lying around. I recommend using 100% cotton yarn as other fibres can melt if you put hot mugs on them. They look great in lots of different colour combos too so get creative.
MATERIALS
Dishie (worsted, 100% cotton, 190yds/100g) MC Swan 25409, 1 skein; C1 Dewdrop 28099, 1 skein
Small amount of black yarn for face details
Crochet hook 4 mm (US G/6)
Tapestry needle
Scissors
ABBREVIATIONS (US Terms)
ch = chain
st/s = stitch/es
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
inc = increase
dec = decrease
GAUGE
Gauge is not critical but make sure your stitches are tight enough so that stuffing is not visible when making the head.
SIZE
Shell is approx 4” in diameter.

Round 2: 6 inc. (12)
Round 3: *inc, 1 sc* Repeat to end of round. (18)
Round 4: 1 sc, *inc, 2 sc* Repeat until 1 st remains, 1 sc. (24)
Round 5: *inc, 3 sc* Repeat to end of round. (30)

Fasten off

Round 3: *4 sc, dec* Repeat to end of round. (10)
Round 4: *3 sc, dec* Repeat to end of round. (8)
Fold flat and sc the edge together to close. Fasten off leaving tail to sew.
HEAD
Round 1: Using MC, 6 sc into a magic ring. (6)
Round 2: 6 inc. (12)
Round 3: *inc, 1 sc* Repeat to end of round. (18)
Round 4: 1 sc, *inc, 2 sc* until 1 st remains, 1 sc. (24)

Stuff the head.

FINISHING

Arrange the pieces as shown and sew them in place using the whip stitch.
Use black yarn to embroider eyes and nose.
